Marian Rivera to Star with Carla Abellana in 'The Other Man'

23-year-old Carla Abellana is being groomed by GMA-7 as their next big star via the Philippine remake of the hit Mexican telenovela "Rosalinda." This is Carla's very first tv role in a primetime series, and a starring role at that.

The first adapted Mexican telenovela on Philippine television was MariMar and it launched Marian Rivera to super stardom. Marian became the hottest female property of the kapuso network as she had a back-to-back tv series that topped the primetime tv ratings nationwide.

Marian and Carla have so much in common. While the latter is yet to prove her worth, people are expecting that she will shine bright as her mother studio has invested so much for her.

Mother Lily Monteverde, for one, has an eye for potential superstars. She acquired multi-movie deal before with Angel Locsin. And after that, it's Marian Rivera. Now, the Regal Films matriarch offered a movie deal with Carla Abellana and her co-star is no other than Marian Rivera.

Carla and Marian is starring in the film "The Other Man" which is set to release later this year.

Marian Rivera Chosen by GMA to be the Next Darna

The hottest star of 2008 gets to play the hottest role in Philippine showbiz.

After weeks of speculations, it's now official. GMA finally announced that the network will bring the pinay super heroine back on television. And the chosen one to play the role? None other than their biggest star, Marian Rivera.

Created by Mars Ravelo, the character of Darna catapulted the career of Angel Locsin in 2005 to superstardom when GMA first adapted the graphic novel on television. The tv ratings it received brought the network on top of the primetime race not just in Mega Manila but also the whole Philippines.

GMA-7 SVP for Entertainment Wilma Galvante announced this afternoon, April 23, that the top-rating series will make a grand comeback with their hottest star playing the role.

Marian Rivera was surprised and delighted by the news, "Hindi ko ito alam. Akala ko may pag-uusapan lang na new project. Yun pala, may surprise sila sa akin. Maraming salamat sa GMA-7 at patuloy ang tiwala nila sa akin."

Contrary to the teaser that they released 2 years ago, it will no longer be a tandem of Darna and Captain Barbell and the series will just focus on Darna alone. However, the role of Captain Barbell will have a cameo in the upcoming series.

Marian Rivera Honored at Walk of Fame

Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes and Claudine Barretto were among the 3rd batch of stars honored in the Walk of Fame, the local version of the one in Hollywood Boulevard.

Just like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, our local stars receive stars on the sidewalk. The brain child of the local version is Master Showman himself, German "Kuya Germs" Moreno. The Walk of Fame is located in Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City.

Only selected stars are immortalized in the Walk of Fame, and according to Kuya Germs, these stars are those who have invaluable contribution in the local showbiz industry, regardless if the celebrity is still alive or not.

FHM Philippines released the final results of their annual poll 100 Sexiest Women in the World and Marian Rivera finished first, Katrina Halili second and Angel Locsin third.

The star of GMA’s top-rating fantaserye Dyesebel became the first non-covergirl to top the annual poll of the best-selling men’s magazine.

Here’s is the final tally of online and text votes for the Top 3:

1st Marian Rivera - 316,135 votes
2nd Katrina Halili - 123,239 votes
3rd Angel Locsin - 121,388 votes

This year’s global winner is Transformer hottie Megan Fox, who recently topped the FHM US poll.

Marimar Rules February NUTAM

Marimar Boosts GMA’s Sunday Daytime Ratings

With three nights left before its final episode, Marimar continues to dominate the ratings game, not only in the primetime race but also in the daytime race.

Last Sunday, March 9, Marimar had its farewell party on SOP, where almost half of the show was devoted to the No. 1 primetime show in the country. This was immediately followed by a farewell special dubbed as Marimar…Isang Pasasalamat hosted by lead stars Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes.

It was a double victory for Marimar since SOP ruled the daytime race with 21.4 percent while Marimar…Isang Pasasalamat was a close second with 19.9 percent.

GMA-7 will bring back the winning tandem of Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes for the first-ever television adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s “Dyesebel.”

GMA CEO Felipe Gozon, on Sunday announced in the network’s showbiz talk show “Showbiz Central” that the Marimar love team will topbill the highly anticipated fantaserye which is set to premiere in April.

GMA's hottest stars, Richard Gutierrez (Kamandag) and Marian Rivera (Marimar), are the newest loveteam in Regal Films and GMA Films' valentine movie "My Best Friend's Girlfriend (BFGF) under the direction of Mark Reyes.

In BFGF, Richard plays Evo, a rich and arrogant young man who seems to be living a happy-go-lucky lifestyle; and Marian plays the role of Grace, an industrious student struggling to make ends meet.

Their paths crossed when Grace was forced by a sudden need for cash to be a sexy dancer for a stag party organized by one of Evo's friends. The conflict arises when Evo's bestfriend (played by JC de Vera) introduces his girlfriend, Grace, to Evo. And due to several twists and turns in the story, Grace and Evo end up in each others' arms.

Marian Gracia Rivera, more popularly known as Marian Rivera (born August 12, 1984 in Madrid, Spain) is a Filipina actress and commercial model. She rose to fame for her title role in the Philippine remake of MariMar.

Early life

Rivera's father is a Spaniard named Francisco Javier Gracia while her mother is a Filipina named Amalia Rivera. Her parents separated when she was 2 years of age. While her parents stayed in Spain where her mother worked as an OFW, and Marian was sent to live with her grandmother in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines.

Career

Rivera began her career as a ramp and commercial model, which landed her with an appearance on TV advertisements for Skin White Lotion and Sky Flakes crackers. Production company TAPE Inc. then signed her to cast in a series of afternoon soap operas for GMA Network: Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako, Agawin Mo Man Ang Lahat (where she was named as the "Best New Female Personality" at the 2006 PMPC Star Awards) and Pinakamamahal. Oyo Boy Sotto was her leading man in these soaps. GMA Network then cast her into mother roles for the afternoon Philippine-Malaysian drama Muli and the primetime telefantasya Super Twins.

Rivera rose to fame when she won an audition for the title role of MariMar, the remake of the Mexican telenovela which starred Thalía. MariMar premiered on August 13, 2007 with a 36.6% rating.

She also branched out in the music industry with the release of a dance album Marian Rivera Dance Hits, wherein she did not record the songs but instead presented a dance choreography for each track.

In 2008, Rivera was honored as 2007's Favorite Television Actress in the First Annual Filipino-American Visionary Awards. She also received an award for Most Popular Actress in a Drama/Miniseries in the 4th USTV Students' Choice Awards.
